Nope, simply fill out the application form with high quality answers! We accept students from all disciplines, faculties and programs and you do not need to have any prior knowledge or experience with rocketry.
On the application form, we will tell you what projects and subteams are accepting new students. Please reference our subteam summaries in each current project for more information.
Yes, you will have to pick the project and subteam you would like to join when you fill out your application.
All applications are reviewed and ones that stand out are invited for an interview. Successful candidates will hear from us soon after interviews are completed.
We want students who are genuinely interested in rocketry and will back it up by fully committing to the team's goals and efforts. We don't require any prior experience. Show us you are willing to put in the time and we will show you how to build a rocket.
This varies by subteam & project but members should expect to commit about 6-10 hours a week. Most subteams will have a mandatory weekend meeting and a short mid-week meeting to keep manufacturing on track. Feel free to ask about specific subteam time commitments in your application.
Traditionally, we do not formally open our application during second semester due to the limited time we have to train new students. However, there are cases where we will open applications for specific positions throughout the year, so keep an eye out for that!
Members are not required to continue attending meetings after April, but depending on the status of the project and the remaining time until competition, we would really appreciate people who can put in extra effort to finish the project.
Rocketry related questions:
Any support that you are able to provide is invaluable to our project since we rely on sponsorship and external funding to launch rockets so consistently. In return for your support, we would be honoured to have your company logo on our competition team apparel, website, social media, and of course, the rockets themselves!
Competitions are not mandatory to attend but are heavily encouraged. They are the place to see your hard work in action! You also get to meet other rocketry teams from around the world, learn the logistics of launching a rocket, and talk with leading aerospace companies about their student opportunities.
We attend two competitions during the summer. In late June, we attend the Spaceport America Cup in New Mexico, USA, and in late August, we attend the Launch Canada competition in Ontario, Canada.
Outside of our competitions, our only other big event is Imagine Day, where we recruit for the upcoming year. All other events are held on a per subteam basis and most revolve around manufacturing and preparing for competition.
Nope! Due to Canadian regulations and licensing requirements, our rocket motors are purchased from a Canadian supplier. All testing is done by our motor suppliers.
